Life Staff

Life Staffs are a type of Magic Weapon in New World. If you want to take on the healing role, you will need to pick the life staff as it is the only weapon that can provide sufficient healing to keep your group alive. Alongside powerful single target and AoE heals, the Life Staff also brings protective buffs and ground effects that become extremely powerful in content where you need to hold your ground or take a capture point. The Life Staff has two mastery trees:

  • Healing: a support tree that is focussed on outputting heals with perks designed to keep your group alive!
  • Protector: a support tree that is focussed on providing buffs and strengthening effects to reduce the damage your team takes!

You can also deal damage with light or heavy attacks and these attacks when targeted on ally, with the Blissful Touch perk chosen in the Healing tree, will heal your ally.

Healing and Damage with a Life Staff will scale off a player’s Focus Attribute so you should focus your points in these areas to improve your healing and damage output. Additionally Focus will increase your maximum mana and regeneration rates which should help you to keep healing during tough encounters.

Best Damage Types

Each weapon has a unique way of dealing damage on top of their abilities. For life staff, this is primarily Nature damage. You should take care to look for perks and gems that prioritise Nature Damage as other types will provide no additional bonuses to your character.

Life Staff Mastery Trees

Active Abilities

  • Divine Embrace – Heal target for 150% weapon damage. Cooldown: 6 seconds
  • Sacred Ground – Create an area on the ground that lasts for 12s and heals 10% weapon damage every second. Cooldown: 20 seconds
  • Splash of Light – You an all group members are healed for 50% weapon damage. Cooldown: 12 seconds

Active Ability Enhancement Traits

  • Privilege – Divine Embrace costs 20 Mana
  • Shared Struggle – If target is below 50% health heal one additional ally within 8m for the same amount
  • Rebound – If 2nd target is below 50% health heal another ally within 8m of that ally
  • Holy Ground – Regenerate Stamina and mana 100% faster while in Sacred Ground
  • Blessed – While allies are in Sacred Ground they are healed for 50% more from all healing
  • Shared Recovery – if you heal a target below 50% health gain 3% of your max mana
  • Purify – Splash of Light also removes one debuff

Passive Ability Traits

  • Desperate Speed – When you heal an ally with less than 50% health Life Staff cooldowns are reduced by 10% (Cooldown: 5 seconds)
  • Sacred Protection – While holding a Life Staff increase the base health of all friendlies in your group by 5%
  • Absolved – Life Staffs Light and Heavy Attack no longer take mana
  • Mending Touch – Life Staffs Heavy Attack now removes one debuff when passing through an ally
  • Blissful Touch – Light Attacks now heal target for 20% weapon damage when passing through an ally
  • Revitalize – When you hit with a light attack reduce all your cooldowns by 5%
  • Enchanted Justice – When hit in battle activate a healing aura for you and nearby friend in a 4m radius healing for 10% weapon damage each second for 6 seconds (Cooldown 120 seconds)
  • Intensify – Heavy Attacks give you increase healing by 10% for 10 seconds (maximum 3 stacks)
  • Divine Blessing – When you heal an ally if their health is below 50% heal for 30% more

Active Abilities

  • Orb of Protection – Shoot out a light projectile that grants 10% Fortify for 20 seconds, heals an ally for 10% of weapon damage, and deals 146% weapon damage when it hits an enemy. Costs 16 mana. Cooldown: 10 seconds.
  • Light’s Embrace – Targeted heal for 100% weapon damage +30% more for each buff on that target. Costs 18 Mana. Cooldown: 4 seconds
  • Beacon – Shoot out a light projectile that deals 146% weapon damage to enemies, attaches to it’s target and heals all nearby allies for 20% weapon damage each second for 10 seconds. Costs 16 Mana. Cooldown: 35 seconds.

Active Ability Enhancement Traits

  • Protector’s Blessing – If Orb of Protection hits an ally, they gain Recovery for 20 seconds (heals for 7.5% weapon damage each second)
  • Shared Protection – If you successfully hit an ally, you also gain Fortify and Recovery
  • Aegis – When this projectile hits, it affects all allies within a 3-meter radius
  • Inspire – When you heal a target with Lights Embrace target receives 25 stamina
  • Connection – When you heal a target with Lights Embrace gain 1% of your max mana for each buff your target has
  • Magnify – When you heal with Light’s Embrace extend Life Staff buffs by 2 seconds
  • Infused Light – Beacon’s area of effect is now 50% larger
  • Radiance’s Blessing – Beacon lasts 5 seconds longer
  • Speed of Light – When Beacon heals a target it also applies 20% Haste for 3 seconds

Passive Ability Traits

  • Bend Light – After a dodge roll your heals are 20% more effective for 5 seconds
  • Protector’s Strength – If you have a buff heal for 10% more
  • Spirits United – Increases mana regeneration for you and group members by 3%
  • Defensive Light – When you block a Melee attack gain 5% max mana
  • Protector’s Touch – Life Staffs Light and Heavy attacks grant 15% Fortify for 3 seconds when hitting an enemy
  • Balance – When you get hit below 50% health, gain 10% Haste for 5 seconds (Cooldown: 20 seconds)
  • Glowing Focus – Buffs you grant last 20% longer
